Get Crafty

I have gotten a little carried away with the organizing and redecorating...I just could not stop after the guest room! The next project I tackled was my sun room/craft room. I had old furniture that I could not find a home for shoved in my sun room. Although the couch was in good condition, it was a horrible moss green color so I kept it cover with a slipcover. It was large and just took up too much space. I decided it was time for it to go. After digging around in my parents basement, I found an old TV stand that was no longer being used. I loaded it up and brought it home to add it to my list of projects. After stripping it down, repainting it, and adding new hardware, it turned out to be a great storage piece to sit between my new chairs!

The New Year brought in the need to get organized! My guest room had turned into my junk room. Since it is rarely used, I have made it the place to throw everything I want out of my way. Now that the holiday season is over, I decided it was finally time to get to work on the guest room. But where to start???? As you can tell, it was a daunting task...

The first thing to do was to clean it out and get rid of the junk. Craigslist became my best friend....one man's junk is another man's treasure! Next, I had to get rid of the blinding lime green walls. I chose a light grey to give a light and airy feel to the room. I found clearance upholstry fabric at Hancocks for only $5 a yard. It is a dark purple color, which I may not have normally chosen, but considering the price, I decided to make it work. I used the fabric to make a headboard. I had just enough left over to make blackout shades and a pillow.
Next I needed a bedside table. I found an old bookshelf at the thrift store for $4.

I started by adding a larger top and a flat bottom. Then I stripped it down and primed it.

Next I painted it green for a base coat. For the top coat I used a dark brown. By lightly sanding, I got the green base coat to show through, giving it an antiqued look.

I added some pretty feet for heigth and my new bedside table was all finished!!

Next, I needed some storage. Since I got rid of all of my furniture, I have no drawers in the room for anything! I found these baskets at Homegoods. My plan is to build a shelf for them, but I have not gotten around to it yet!

Another trip to the thrift store landed a great frame. It was just plain black when I bought it. With a little spray paint and chicken wire it made the perfect way to display pictures.

I am still not finished with this room, but slowly it is beginning to come together. Hopefully I will get it complete this year!

I love Christmas time. I have been busy decorating...

There is nothing like a Christmas tree to get you in the spirit of the season. This year I decided to add a second tree. I have been collecting oranments for this tree for the past couple of years. I would hit the clearance sales the day after Christmas and get what was left for great sale prices.

I did not have enough ornaments to fill the tree, so I decided to do a pintrest idea and make my own! It looked simple and promised great results. I actually had some clear glass balls left from last year.

Following my pintrest directions, I poured paint into the balls, swirled the paint around, and let them dry. The turned out perfect!

Burlap door hangers are so cute. They are so simple to make and such a great gift idea!
